Job Description

  • Key Responsibilities:

    Isolate stem cells, primary cells and establishing crustacean and mammalian cell lines. 

    Cell culture routine including media changing, passaging, cryopreservation of cells.

    Screening of culture medium optimal for the growth of cells.

    Identify and meet with external vendors, research partners and resources where appropriate.

    Assist in setting up of lab space in Australia.

    Manage lab inventory, maintenance of equipment and ordering of consumables, reagents and equipment. 

    Rigorous documentation of experimental procedures and data.

    Communicate results in a timely and effective manner.

    Traits:

    Strongly motivated and believes in mission to bring crustacean meat to market. 

    Ability to think out of the box.  

    Works well independently.

    Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task.

    Compensation:

    The position is full-time and the candidate will be compensated similar to industry standards.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Shiok Meats is looking for a Research Assistant to work on cell line development. This is a laboratory-based position in our Australia satellite lab, with opportunities for collaboration across R&D groups in Singapore, Australia and Thailand. Due to the dynamic and collaborative environment of our organization, this role will require someone who can not only work individually, but also as part of a team.

    Sydney, Australia

    Required background:

    Bachelor of Biotechnology/Biological Science/Biochemistry or relevant science fields

    Preferred experience:

    Experience with mammalian/seafood/invertebrate cell culture, specifically stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), embryonic stem cells (ESC) is an advantage.

    Experience in conducting individual research project.

    At least 1 year working experience in life science laboratory.
